August 13th - 25th 2008

Artistic direction: Peter Thiemann

Presentation

AIMS activities are organized by the City of Solsona and the Solsonès county authority Consell Comarcal. Since it’s creation in 2002 AIMS has risen to be one of Spain’s finest, most ambitious and international musical summer events.

Twelve days of intensive courses in piano, violin, viola, violoncello, chamber music and chamber orchestra are planned that will allow participating students to expand their professional education with highly experienced teachers from seven different countries.

We gladly announce the incorporation of renowned Belgian cellist Roel Dieltiens to the AIMS faculty.

As in previous years AIMS gives an opportunity to young musicians to perform in the AIMS Festival.

Twelve chamber music concerts will be played, six of them by the students attending the courses to allow them the opportunity to present the results of their musical and artistic endeavours in public.

The number of students is limited to ten per instrument in order to guarantee the right conditions for intensive work at a high level.

AIMS does not have any age restriction for interested participants. If necessary, applicants will be asked to provide a video or audio tape to aid selection.

AIMS has seven scholarships available to a students, one per instrument course. For details view General Information at the bottom of this page.

AIMS will provide accommodation in large single and double rooms suitable for studying. The master classes will be held individually and collectively.

The AIMS Concerto Audition will be held as in previous years. The winner/s will perform in three festival concerts as soloist accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra AIMS 08.

For details check General Information on this page.

Located in the foothills of the Pyrenees, Solsona's friendly atmosphere and wide range of leisure activities in combination with volunteer helpers from the region and the existing administrative infrastructure, will make AIMS the prestigious music course it deserves to be, and will also act as an international meeting place for our young musicians seeking a common purpose: to provide a strong musical foundation and create bonds between our different cultures.

Solsona is accessible from Barcelona by taking the road via Terrassa, Manresa, Cardona (105km). There is public bus transport from Barcelona Estació del Nord to Solsona. AIMS will have detailed information about timetables and ticket prices from April 2008 onwards.

The deadline for the enrolment is 30th June, 2008. All the applicants must send a completed application and short curriculum vitae.

AIMS will select potential students and will announce the selection to all applicants by July 5th, 2008.
Selected students will have to provide proof of the international money transfer from their bank showing that the course fees have been paid.
If there are more applicants than available places, an audition piece (or pieces) on audio cassette, CD, minidisk or a video tape (VHS) lasting at least 15 minutes will be required. The teachers of the relevant instrument will then decide the successful applicants. We therefore recommend enclosing a recording (audio or video) with your application.

Students who are younger than 18 each will be allocated a chaperone. We will require written permission from the parent or guardian allowing this.

All participants must arrange their own medical insurance in case of illness or accident.

Students who wish to perform in one of the six student concerts must prepare at least one entire solo work for their instrument (unaccompanied work).

It is possible to attend aims as a non-participant. There is plenty of accommodation available in the hotels and hostels in Solsona, which aims can arrange for you if required. The fee for non-participants is 250 €.

Students interested in performing at the students' concerts should indicate which pieces they would like to play on their application form. The program for these concerts will be decided by the professors during aims strictly according to artistic criteria.

AIMS has seven scholarships of 750 € available to a students. According to demand and prove of artistic standards AIMS will concede entire scholarships or split scholarships among qualified applicants.

AIMS requires a written application and a recording on audio cassette, CD, minidisk or a video tape (VHS) lasting at least 15 minutes.

Deadline for scholarship applications is May 30th 2008.
